While thinking of a new cover image for my blog, I considered AI Generated colour themes. I was specifically prompted with the question, “Would you like color themes for April?” Intrigued, I opted for it and was pleasantly surprised by the results. The AI suggested a beautiful set of colors, but it only provided the names of the colors, not the hex codes. To get the hex codes, I turned to another AI tool, Mixtral LeChat, which provided the necessary information.

Introduction
A color palette is a selection of colors used in design for various purposes, such as branding, web design, interior decoration, and more. Color palettes help create a cohesive and visually appealing aesthetic, evoking specific emotions and conveying messages effectively. While exploring ai generated colour themes, I accidentally came across Flux 1.1 Pro, an AI tool that suggested color themes for April. This discovery led me to explore the potential of AI in generating color palettes for design.
🟩 Step 1: First Look on Flux 1.1 Pro
The suggestions looked like this (just names, no codes):
→ La Pétite Pink, Cherry Petitos, Caramel Purple, April Green, Sleepy Purple…

🟨 Step 2: Asking Mixtral LeChat
I copied the names and asked LeChat: “What could be the hex codes for these?” It generated a very plausible-looking set of hex values.
I then asked Grok and Flux again, this time with a new twist:
“Can you generate a monsoon-themed palette?”
🟧 Step 3: The Mixed Bag
– Grok thought I wanted cityscapes and people (😅 not colours). – Mixtral LeChat gave me only hex codes, no visuals or vibes. – Flux 1.1 Pro did well for summer colours but faltered with monsoon ones. – ChatGPT… well, I ran out of credits trying 😄. – Bing AI Image gave me a gorgeous 3×3 oil on canvas grid—not useful, but definitely cool.
This little experiment reminded me that AI can be both inspiring and unreliable in creative workflows. I’ve used colour palettes before in interior design concepts, but AI often misses nuance. So while the potential is there, it’s best seen as a playful, experimental process—for now.
Curious to see how other AI tools would handle the same task, I decided to replicate the “theme” for monsoons using Grok, LeChat, ChatGPT, Flux 1.1 Pro, and Bing. The results were mixed. Grok insisted on showing humans or scenes from cities, which was not what I was looking for. Mixtral and Grok only listed the color hex codes without any visual representation. Flux 1.1 Pro gave one reasonable palette for summer, but the others were disappointing. ChatGPT was not very helpful as I ran out of credits (since I have paid plans for you.com and Grok). Bing did not give me what I was looking for, but the 3×3 grid with a different oil on canvas painting in each cell was interesting.

Takeaway
The idea of using AI for generating color palettes holds potential, and I have tested color schemes for interior design. However, I leave it as a fun activity, as the results of the trials and errors are mostly on the error side.
